Mariinsky theatre has been home to world-class performances of ballet and opera since 1860. Ballet lovers that visit Saint Petersburg first of all try to get to this very theatre.
When buying tickets, mind that there are two different stages: the Main one (Historic) and the New one (Mariinsky-2). They are located very close to each other.
2. Mikhailovsky Theatre
This elegant old-style theatre, where traditions are held sacred, is a perfect place to watch opera and ballet classics. Having some champagne in the beautiful hall during the intermissions will make your experience even more authentic.
3. Alexandrinsky Theatre
Beautiful Alexandrinsky theatre traditionally shows Swan Lake and other ballet masterpieces during the tourist season.
4. The Hermitage Theatre
It is a unique chance to visit a theatre that belonged to the Royal family. The repertoire of the theatre includes spectacular Nutcracker, dramatic Giselle, romantic Sleeping Beauty and the classic Swan Lake.
5. Saint Petersburg Chamber Opera
This small musical theatre is not that well known but has a great variety of opera, shows and concerts in its repertoire.
